The talking drum, originating from West Africa, is a drum with an hourglass shape. It has the unique ability to imitate human speech in terms of tone and rhythm. This is achieved by adjusting the pitch using tension cords that connect the two drumheads. The player can alter the pitch by scraping these cords between arm and body.
